Brainspotting

is a way to find lasting, permanent, positive change and I am thrilled to be a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner.

Brainspotting is a neuroscientific approach to psychotherapy that uses the field of vision to locate where a person is holding previous traumas or negative experiences and emotions in their brain and body. Brainspotting has roots in EMDR and incorporates somatic experiencing, relational and insight-oriented therapy.

Where you look affects how you feel.

Our eyes are directly connected to the limbic system part of our brain, or “mammalian brain”, most frequently linked to emotion. Brainspotting uses music and bilateral brain stimulation to allow for deeper access to the limbic system to access feelings or memories that talk therapy alone can’t reach.

Brainspotting is a valuable tool that can assist in letting go of or processing previous trauma and various emotions, but it is also helpful to get to a more expansive place for yourself; whether it be removing creative blocks, helping you achieve a specific goal, or getting back to the person you used to be or would like to grow into.

When the horrific tragedy took place at Sandy Hook resulting in the deaths of small children and others due to gun violence, Brainspotting proved most efficacious in healing and ameliorating symptoms of PTSD in those affected, moreso than EMDR, Somatic Experiencing MNRI and others.

A non-exhaustive list of some challenges that I utilize Brainspotting for to allow for deeper client healing include:

  • Trauma

  • Grief and loss

  • Attachment wounding/family stuff

  • Attachment and relationships

  • Low self-esteem

  • Feeling stuck

  • Dissociation

  • Repressed memory

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Phobias

  • Feeling like life is on pause
